Portmeirion is a tourist village in Gwynedd, North Wales. It was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975 in the style of an Italian village, and is now owned by a charitable trust. Portmeirion has served as the location for numerous films and television shows, most famously as "The Village" in the 1960s television show The Prisoner.

There are a few other places in Portmeirion to visit, if you missed out on these places, then it is not worth it going there. Places like the sandy beaches of Dwyryd Estuary, the coastal path towards the ends of the peninsula, with a dynamic view of the Snowdonia Mountains and costliness. The most visited place in Portmeirion village is Amis Reunis. This place was used as houseboats at earlier times, and its remains can be seen off the coast of Portmeirion during the low tides. It was a dream of Clough to build a stone boat at the homage. It would be a fantastic place for children to play the game of pirates.

Portmeirion and Prisoner the Series

The most influential masterpiece of television of the 1960s THE PRISONER was filmed in Portmeirion village. Starring Patrick McGeehan, the classic series was so popular amongst the people and with that, Portmeirion also got a new tag. Every year the prisoner convocation is held in Portmeirion, which is attended by fans from all around the world, you can also find the classic prisoner clothing and prisoner shops all around.

Portmeirion is in north Wales it is on the island of Great Britain to west England. It covers an area of 20,782 kilometers i.e. 8,024 square miles, which is around half size of the Netherlands, a similar size to Slovenia, and a bit smaller than the US states of New Jersey.


Portmeirion had been an inspirational place for many people in the past. Noel coward wrote a play called, blithe spirits while he was staying in a cottage at Portmeirion.  Frank Lloyd Wright, Gregory Peck, Ingrid Bergman, Paul McCartney, and many other famous poets, writers have visited this place. Jools Holland visited this place when he was making a TV show called the tube. People of Portmeirion are very fond of music, art, architecture, and dance. There is no residential accommodation in Portmeirion. This place is occupied by a charitable trust known as Ymddiriedolaeth Clough Williams-Ellis Foundation.
