Laphroaig Distillery is located in the Isle of Islay, off the west coast of Scotland. It is best known worldwide for its Scotch whisky, or "Scotch," produced there. The distillery was founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston. The distillery has produced only single malt whisky since 1898. Laphroaig was the most northern of all Scottish distilleries until the Old Pulteney Distillery (Norton) in the 1990s. Before it sold out its stake, Islay International Airport was named "Laphroaig Airport" due to the distillation facilities. Today Laphroaig is owned by Beam Inc. (since 2011, formerly by Fortune Brands (since 2000), Fortune Brands Home & Security (since 1996), and United Distillers (1977–1995).
Lindores Abbey Distillery is another distillery in the United Kingdom that focuses purely on malt whisky production. The distillery was founded in 1998 by Richard Paterson, a former blender for Whyte and Mackay. Its flagship whisky, named after the Lindores Abbey, is produced and packaged, has an ABV of 43%, inspired by the high-alcohol content of near-contemporary whiskies.
Linkwood Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery situated in the Speyside region of Scotland, near the village of Kinclaven. The distillery was founded in 1897 by John Duff, who built the distillery next to his mansion, originally named Stonefield. The house served as a rectory for the parish church, but the distillery was named after a little-known farming hamlet called Linkwood, which lies 2 miles away. The liquid produced at this distillery is quite light, with a slightly nutty character. Linkwood Distillery currently produces whisky for Macallan. Macallan Distillers Ltd. is a Scotch whiskey distiller company founded in 1824, which is located Byres Road, Elgin, The Highlands, Scotland. It is one of the largest single malt Scotch whiskies globally and the most awarded single malt at international spirit rating competitions.
